The rise of combinatorial chemistry in the nineties had enabled the generation of tens of thousands of synthetic molecules for drug candidate screening. But among other problems, the identification of hits from compound pools proved difficult. Attrition rates after the preclinical phase remained high, fuelling the demand for novel, more reliable strategies for candidate molecule generation. Focussed synthesis of single compound libraries consisting of clearly defined molecules has emerged as a way out of the muddle of compound pools and towards more rapid and reliable high throughput screening and identification of lead structures.

peptides&elephants specialises in the development of automatic high performance synthesis devices for parallel synthesis of single molecule libraries with a focus on the synthesis of peptide libraries. The synthesis system LIPS® Synthesizer 9x96 enables parallel synthesis of 864 peptides in a single run. It's proprietary technology platform relies on three major components. These three building blocks constitute the innovative core of peptides&elephants' technology: the synthesis pens, the datatool and the microsynthesis plates.
