Description

VMAPQSLLL is a linear peptidic epitope (epitope ID 769787) studied as part of Protein UL40 (UniProt:P16780) from Human herpesvirus 5 (Human cytomegalovirus). The protein UL40 helps protect the virus from the cytotoxicity of natural killer cells. Independently of TAP, it upregulates the expression of HLA-E on the cell surface, since HLA-E inhibits the cytotoxic activity of natural killer cells.
In addition, UL40 promotes the expression of the protein UL18 on the cell surface, which is also involved in evading natural killer cells.
This epitope has been studied for immune reactivity, tested in T cell assays, MHC ligand assays.
