Description
Coronavirus disease 2019, known as COVID-19, is an infectious desease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a virus closely related to the SARS virus. The virus structure consists of RNA, membrane glycoprotein (M), hemagglutinin-esterease dimer (HE), envelope protein (E), nucleocapsid protein (N), spike protein (S) and others. The nucleocapsid protein has different functions in the coronavirus replication cycle, for example the viral genome packaging. SARS-CoV Nucleocapsid A2 N223-231 (HLA-A*02:01) is a linear peptide derived from the N protein. In a recent study, LLLDRLNQL sequence was one of the T cell epitopes derived from the nucleocapsid (N) protein that mapped identically to SARS-CoV-2 protein. Immune targeting of these epitopes may potentially offer protection against this novel virus.
