The HCMV UL40 15-23 peptide is often used as positive control. HCMV UL40 15-23 is part of the immune evasion strategie of the Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV). The virus downregulates HLA class Ia molecule expression in order to evade T cell recognition. However, a lack of surface HLA class Ia molecules triggers cytotoxicity of Natural Killer (NK) cells.
